How to Store Wine

The wines of guard improve with time. But it's necessary that they are preserved under optimal conditions.

How to store bottles

To preserve its bottles

The bottles must be arranged horizontally, so that the stoppers are always in contact with the wine.
One will preferably place the white wines in bottom, close to the ground and the red wines in height.
The ideal wine conservation temperature is between 10°C and 14°C (50°F and 57°F). The dangers of the cold and heats are different. A too low temperature (in lower part of 8°C / 46°F) will slow down the ripening of the wine. Contrary, a too high temperature (over 20°C / 68°F) will accelerate it. It's this last threat which is most dangerous.
Not to deteriorate the taste of the wine, it's advised to preserve the bottles safe from the light.

The capacity of bottles

  • Half: 37,5 Cl.
  • Bottle: 75 Cl.
  • Magnum: 2 bottles - 1,5 L.
  • Jeroboam: 4 bottles - 3 L.
  • Reroboam: 6 bottles - 4,5 L.
  • Mathusalem: 8 bottles - 6 L.
  • Salmanazar: 12 bottles - 9,5 L.
  • Balthazar: 16 bottles - 13 L.
  • Nabuchodonosor: 20 bottles - 16 L.
  • Melchior: 24 bottles - 18 L.

The larger the bottle will be, the more the period of conservation of the wine will lengthen: a wine in half-bottle will thus age more quickly than a wine out of magnum.
